Mreethmandir (b. 1995) is an animator and visual artist who grew up in Dhaka. His practice is based on his ever-active investigation of his surroundings and the feelings evoked by such spaces. He uses his sketchbook drawing as a coping mechanism- documenting his observations and his emotional response to them. His techniques span experimental animation and video projection to activate and communicate his drawings.

He completed his BFA in sculpture from the University of Dhaka in 2019 and got his MA in animation from the Re:Anima European Joint Masters Programme in 2025. His microfilm “Dogs of the City” was displayed in Dhaka, as part of Doob 2.0 – a miniaturesque exhibition initiated by Azize Fawmi Khan in September 2022. His animated video art projects have been displayed as part of several other curated projects in Dhaka. In parallel, Mreethmandir is also a professional animator working on commercials, films, and music videos. He also enjoys teaching animation, contributing to collaborative projects, and curating collective exhibitions.

“A Prayer for Softer Land” is the output of his thesis, produced in the context of Re:Anima European Joint Masters Programme. The project is a reaction to the overwhelming chaos of Dhaka, which is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The project was born from his sketchbook, which developed as an attempt to escape the chaotic environment.
