Sisältö:
Työpajassa syvennytään näyttelyssä esillä oleviin biopohjaisiin materiaaleihin käytännönläheisesti. Aluksi kuullaan Niina Hyryn biomateriaali-projektin taustaa ja katsaus siihen, miten SCOBY-tyyppinen materiaali syntyy ja mikä siitä tekee kiinnostavan materiaalin. Sen jälkeen tutustutaan päivän materiaalin ominaisuuksiin: miltä se tuntuu, miten se käyttäytyy eri tavoin käsiteltäessä ja mitä sen rakenne kertoo mahdollisista käyttötavoista.

Käsin testaus ja keskustelu:
Osallistujat pääsevät tunnustelemaan materiaalia käsin pienissä harjoitteissa. Harjoitteiden jälkeen keskustellaan yhdessä siitä, millaisia ajatuksia materiaali herättää ja millaisiin käyttökohteisiin se voisi taipua.

Lopputulos:
Työpajan lopussa käydään lyhyt yhteenvetokeskustelu: “mikä yllätti” ja “mihin tämä voisi sopia” -teemoilla.

Māter X -näyttelyn aikana järjestetään kaksi työpajaa, joissa teemana ovat SCOBY ja sienirihmasto. Työpajoissa syvennytään näyttelyssä esillä oleviin biopohjaisiin materiaaleihin. Lisäksi kuullaan Niina Hyryn biomateriaali-projektin taustaa ja tutustutaan teemassa olevan materiaalin ominaisuuksiin. Materiaalia päästään tunnustelemaan käsin ja pohtimaan, mitä ajatuksia se herättää sekä millaisiin käyttökohteisiin se voisi taipua. Yhden työpajan kesto on noin 50 minuuttia. Ohjaajana toimii Niina Hyry. Työpajaan otetaan enintään 10 henkilöä saapumisjärjestyksessä. Työpaja on maksuton.

Content:
In the workshop, participants explore the bio-based materials featured in the exhibition in a practical, hands-on way. First, Niina Hyry presents the background of her biomaterials project and an overview of how an SCOBY-type material is formed—and what makes it an interesting material. Next, participants get to know the properties of the featured material of the day: what it feels like, how it behaves in different types of handling, and what its structure suggests about potential applications.

Hands-on testing and discussion: Participants will be able to touch and handle the material in small guided exercises. After the activities, the group discusses what the material brings to mind and what kinds of use cases it could suit.

Outcome:
At the end, there is a short group wrap-up discussion focused on what surprised participants and what SCOBY could be used for.
