Sisältö:
Työpajassa perehdytään näyttelyssä esillä olevaan sienirihmastoon materiaalina. Aluksi kuullaan Niina Hyryn biomateriaali-projektin taustaa ja siirrytään sitten sienirihmastomateriaalien ominaisuuksiin, kuten: rakenne, tuntuma, käsiteltävyys.

Käsin testaus ja keskustelu:
Osallistujat pääsevät tunnustelemaan materiaalia käsin pienissä harjoitteissa. Lopuksi pohditaan yhdessä, millaisia käyttöskenaarioita sienimateriaaleille voisi syntyä ja miten osallistujien havainnot vaikuttavat heidän käsitykseensä materiaalin soveltuvuudesta.

Lopputulos:
Työpajan lopussa käydään lyhyt yhteenvetokeskustelu: “mikä yllätti” ja “mihin tämä voisi sopia” -teemoilla.

Māter X -näyttelyn aikana järjestetään kaksi työpajaa, joissa teemana ovat SCOBY ja sienirihmasto. Työpajoissa syvennytään näyttelyssä esillä oleviin biopohjaisiin materiaaleihin. Lisäksi kuullaan Niina Hyryn biomateriaali-projektin taustaa ja tutustutaan teemassa olevan materiaalin ominaisuuksiin. Materiaalia päästään tunnustelemaan käsin ja pohtimaan, mitä ajatuksia se herättää sekä millaisiin käyttökohteisiin se voisi taipua. Yhden työpajan kesto on noin 50 minuuttia. Ohjaajana toimii Niina Hyry. Työpajaan otetaan enintään 10 henkilöä saapumisjärjestyksessä. Työpaja on maksuton.

Workshop 2: Mycelium

Content:
The workshop introduces fungal mycelium as a material and its possibilities as a bio-based material platform. It starts with an introduction to the background of Niina Hyry’s biomaterials project and then moves on to the properties of mycelium material—its structure, feel, and workability, etc.

Hands-on exploration and discussion:
Participants will engage with the material by touch and through a few light, guided activities. Finally, the group reflects together on potential use scenarios for mycelium and how participants’ observations shape their view of its suitability.

Outcome:
At the end, there is a short group wrap-up discussion focused on what surprised participants and what mycelium could be used for.

During the Māter X exhibition, two workshops are held with a focus on SCOBY and fungal mycelium. In the workshops, participants explore the bio-based materials featured in the exhibition. They will also hear about Niina Hyry’s biomaterials project and learn about the properties of the featured materials. Participants can touch the materials by hand and reflect on what they evoke, as well as what kinds of use cases they could suit. Duration of a single workshop: approx. 50 minutes. The workshops are led by Niina Hyry. A maximum of 10 participants can join on a first-come, first-served basis. The workshops are free of charge.
