Wera Morawiec: Staying With and Slipping Away
Public talk with Q&A Sunday 27.9. at 16:00
In this talk, Wera Morawiec will try to reflect on her perspective as someone who entered contemporary art from outside the field, bringing a background in psychology and her practice as a therapist into artistic and curatorial work.
She will speak about the informal, long-term relationships that have shaped her practice and led to the creation of two collectives: noks, active since 2018, and the Plenum of Care, since 2021. She will explore how friendship, honesty and companionship can become the basis for sustained collective practice, while also reflecting on the tensions, difficulties and vulnerabilities involved with “staying with”. Through examples of somatic techniques and performance scores that she uses in her everyday practice, Morawiec will consider how staying close and slipping away can coexist as complementary forms of care.
She will also introduce selected outdoor and public-space projects by noks, as well as the workshops, exhibitions and publications of the Plenum of Care, including memes and excerpts from its zine.
