Elisa Aaltola Eläinkuvat: tunteet ymmärryksen väylänä ja esteenä

Opastettu kierro / Guieded tour  01.02.2020 at 14:00

Tervetuloa tutustumaan 79 miljoonaa -näyttelyyn filosofi Elisa Aaltolan johdolla lauantaina 1.2. kello 14-15. Omalla opaskierroksellaan Aaltola lähestyy näyttelyn kuvia moraalifilosofian näkökulmasta.

79 miljoonaa on valokuvaaja Emmi Kähkösen projekti, joka sai alkunsa vuohen syntymästä, jota Kähkönen oli kuvaamassa. Kokemuksesta heräsi kysymyksiä. Mikä on eläimen elinkaari? Mihin se päättyy? Mikä ihmisen rooli on?

Elisa Aaltola: Animal Pictures – Emotions as a Path and a Barrier to Understanding

Every year, 79 million animals are slaughtered in Finland and 70 billion worldwide. Animal and non-organic production methods are not sustainable. In addition to environmental and health issues, animal rights also concern moral and philosophical issues. The key question resonating throughout the 79 Million exhibition is: Why do humans need and desire to take precedence over the suffering of other living and feeling animals?

79 Million is an exhibition produced by Finnish photographer Emmi Kähkönen. The show has been influenced by the artist’s own experience while photographing the birth of a goat. Touched by this intimate experience, the artist started to hypothesise: What is the Life Cycle of an Animal? Where does it end? What is the role of man within this cycle?

As part of the exhibition, there will be three guided tours held at Myymälä2 gallery. Each one of the tours will offer a different perspective on the exhibition and its theme: the moral/ philosophical, social science and visual perspective.

Animal Pictures- Emotions as a Path and a Barrier to Understanding is the first exhibition related event, led by the philosopher Elisa Aaltola. It will be held at Myymälä2 gallery on Saturday 1.2. 2020 between 2pm and 3pm. During this guided tour, Aaltola will approach pictures displayed in the exhibition from the perspective of moral philosophy.

Elisa Aaltola is a philosopher focusing on animal and environmental issues, moral psychology and the philosophy of suffering. She is a docent and researcher at the University of Turku. Aaltola’s books include: Shame and Love – Human Nature, Empathy – The Science of Compassion (with Sami Kedo), Animal Moral Value, Introduction to Animal Philosophy, and Animals in Society (edited by Sami Kedo).

Please note! The exhibition is not recommended for small children.
