A hands-on workshop with Nicolina Stylianou at Quantum Critic 2021.
“Make a Crystal – This is Not a Giant Crystal” is a two-part hands-on workshop on how to make homegrown piezoelectric crystals, so as to amplify sounds. The crystals are a subject to piezoelectric effect which appears when certain objects (i.e., crystals, ceramics, metals) exhibit electric charge (polarity: positive, negative) when subjected to mechanical pressure.
The workshop will be held in two parts at Myymälä2 Quantum Critic pop-up exhibition at the address Katariinankatu 4, 00170 Helsinki, Finland.
The first part will be held on the 9th October 2021 where we will prepare the mixture. We will then let the mixture crystallize for few weeks, and on the 30th October 2021, we will test, solder, and produce the microphones.
“Make a Crystal – This is Not a Giant Crystal” is a result of “Lythomancy” (2019-2021) creative research supported by Kone Foundation which began with an interest on how to pass electricity through hair, and to study the socio-historical and cultural symbols around it.
There is a maximum number of 7 participants for the workshop.
The workshop is free of charge.
