Blue Garden of Plant Ghosts is a visual exhibition presenting experimental cyanotype works and processes by the Italian researcher and bioartist Lorenzo Li Greci. The works align traditional cyanotype formulae with contemporary approaches to combine painting and alternative photography in two years of experiments resulting in an herbarium collection and
its extensions.
The creation and the preservation of an herbarium are two practices that combine the scientific and the artistic knowledge. Herbaria can also be seen as tangible examples of the interaction between humans and nature, inviting us to consider plants as entities, beyond their simple biological aspect. In this context the artist ponders over the transformative power of organic ephemerality in combination with inorganic dreams to create new forms of memory and writing that turn the fragilities of the material world into a heavenly garden of spectral plants. The plant ghosts seem to oscillate between the past and the future, creating a feeling of eternity. It is a place where reality and illusion, life and death merge in a mystical dance, where visitors can contemplate the eternal cycle of nature in a blue dimension of pure wonder.
