Naiset, rotu & luokka book launch
Tutkijaliitto has organized a launch party for Angela Davis’ book Women, Race and Class’ recent finnish translation (Anna Tuomikoski, Tutkijaliitto 2021) on the 18th of november 2021. Davis’ work is a marxist feminist analysis on gender, race and class, in which she looks into the histories of diverse American social movements from slavery to modern times. Today, 40 years after its release, the book is still a relevant analysis of the problems social movements face when not taking different forms of oppression into consideration. Davis (b. 1944) is an emeritus professor at the University of California whose feminist thought is based especially on marxism and abolitionism.
During the launch party there will be a panel discussion with journalist, activist and DJ Renaz Ebrahimi and activist and dissertation researcher Hai Nguyen. The discussion will delve deep into the applications of Davis’ analysis in the modern day antiracist and feminist front. What are our current battles? What direction could the conversation and activism be heading to with Davis’ work as a foundation? What does translating this classic piece bring to the battles faced in Finland?
The book will be on sale at the event. Payment by card or MobilePay.
