20th-31th March 2024
Myymälä2 is pleased to present the exhibition “Shades of Ukraine” the first solo exhibition by Ukrainian artist Yelyzaveta Marynina. The exhibition comprises a recent series of digital collage prints which intends to be a loving testament and endearing proclamation of the grit and bravery of the Ukrainian nation and its people under the heartbreaking devastation caused by the hostile Russian aggressor.
Marynina’s visual language — beyond her sorrowful and refined plight— emerges equally as spontaneous coloured compositions and studied interest in selecting and combining different symbologies and allusions. She approaches each digital collage as a meaningful exercise to release intense emotions and passionate feelings, her emotional investment in artistic creation generates and evokes heartfelt healing experiences.
Against the backdrop of the long-lasting barbaric Russian invasion of Ukraine, Marynina has something to say, something deeply moving about the steadfastness of Ukrainians in the defence of their homeland and magnificent culture and certainly we should all look closer and sympathise with her predicament.
