Exhibition Opening Feb 21st 16:00-18:00
Re/source residency introduces the idea of waste as abundan and neglected material. As yearly humans are producing over two bilion tonns of trash it is time for a generational change that will lead us to perceiving waste as a resource. Resource that should be repurposed as much as possible in modern art practices.
For duration of two weeks, three multidisciplinary creatives from Belarus and Poland – @dashabrian, @_mikebona and @fordpolio, are going to conduct selfdirected research on Baltic countries pollution. They will aim to gather knowledge, data and materials to understand how and why trash become one of the heaviest burdens for humanity.
By using an open source documentation artists will collectively learn about the types and amounts of waste, degenerated recycling practices and pollution risks that come with capitalistic overconsumption.
All research will be developed in public view at Myymäla2 process wall. This space is crucial for the experimental learning experience that is embracing asking uncomfortable questions about the state of our planet , making mistakes, repurposing ideas and transforming trash into pieces of art.
Michał: Born and living in the southeastern Polish town of Sandomierz, Mike Bona (1996) is an artist and photographer, working part-time at a family-owned junkyard, which has influenced his artistic endeavours. In his works Bona tries to create narratives and build up tension. His photographs are well thought-out and they convey a very carefree vision of everyday life.
Dash: Dasha Brian (*1995, Belarus) is an audiovisual artist working on the borderline of the arts based in Warsaw. With a background of working as a theater director and performance artist, Brian has developed an artistic practice that centers around live performances, short art films and video collages. In these works, Dasha portrays herself and others in various roles and scenarios, exploring such themes as representation in private and public life, politics and body. In her work she strives to go beyond the limitations of specific forms. Her experiences as a Belarusian political refugee in Europe have greatly influenced her art, leading her to question patterns of identity, particularly as a woman. After the 2020 revolution in Belarus, Dasha was forced to leave the country because of threats of political persecution from the Lukashenko’s regime. Since then she has been working a lot with political art and is the creator of the ART PROJECT REVOLUTION, which works with the themes of feminism, human rights and art in crisis situations.
Piotrek: Born in 1997 in Warsaw. Graduate of the Media Art Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He completed his diploma in the studio of Prof. Mirosław Bałka, and the annex in the studio of Dr. Wojciech Bąkowski. In his works, he addresses topics ranging from nature to construction. He is interested in what happens at the interface between the city and nature. He works mainly in the field of objects and sculpture, examining the influence of space and the infrastructure in it on human behavior. He constantly tests the possibility of building shelters with the surrounding materials.
