RAW – Relational Art Week

For the past 4 years, the Myymälä2 RAW festival has highlighted experimentational and often daring concepts of performance art, with the underlying purpose of connecting audience and performers.
This year, guest curator Anna Ruth, looks to create this audience-performer connection through storytelling. Stories often present narratives that centre human experience and this year RAW will look at our common humanity through the multifaceted prism of storytelling performances.
During the last week of August, everyday a different artist will explore storytelling through the specific means of their own practice. And, audience members will be invited to join different performance practices through self reflection. Veteran performance artist Helinä Hukkataival asks the audience to ponder, When you see yourself, what do you see? Harold Hejazi invites the audience to place themselves in the shoes of an immigrant, in order to help him navigate the MIGRI video game. Pete Revonkorpi and Henri Lindström will use live, digital animation to move the audience with soft stories of existence. Direct audience participation is part of the performance by Ondi Madete who uses music to relay feelings of love, loss and identity. Joele Solinas will combine his experiences of puppetry and performance in a new, experimental piece. Choreographer Sara Grotenfelt will involve the audience through physical drawing, in a kind of non-verbal storytelling. And the festival will conclude with an intervention by Fran Trento who will invite the audience to help create a physical space of personal well being. By extension of our varied human experience, this festival invites us to look at ourselves and our narratives, anew.
