Air is the vehicle of continuous interspecies communication, it carries biological compounds and chemical signals, it moves sounds and scents, it influences meteorology and mood.
Even if it goes almost unnoticed, air is constantly part of our tactile experience that is at the basis of the oxytocin cycle that regulates affections. Far from being incorporeal, but continuously loaded with content, the atmosphere has played a fundamental role in carrying forward biological evolution. From a biological point of view, in fact, air and its pervasive and fluid contamination function as an evolutionary force that instigates mutations and improves vitality, often making organisms more resistant to the environment.
Aerial Forms of (r)Evolution presents a collection of works that include air as a means of proliferation, dispersion and amplification of meanings, as a subtle act of subversion.
While our cultural structures collapse under the weight of their own incoherence, unprecedented opportunities for radical change blow on the weakening candle of top-down structures, and constant perturbations and unexpected winds re-order the structures across the globe.
Special event: during the fair we offer a special event with the projection of the film Prisoner’s Dilemma by Li Zhenhua.

BIOGRAPHIES
Myymälä2 is a non-profit artist-run contemporary art gallery and event space in the heart of the design district of Helsinki since 2002. Over the years, it has strengthened its position internationally as a space dedicated to contemporary art, experimental music, design and street culture, and it has an independent publishing house called Pteron Press. Myymälä2 presents dedicated artists from different disciplines of various cultural and educational backgrounds, whose attitude toward art is experimental and unconventional. Since 2020 Myymälä2 has been supported by the Helsinki City Culture and Leisure Department, and by The Arts Promotion Centre Finland. Its projects have been growing under the auspices of The Finnish Cultural Foundations – Regional and Central Fund, Frame Contemporary Art Finland, Oskar Öflunds Stiftelse, Manifesta12, Mondriaan Fund, Fondazione Orestiadi, Erasmus+, Kone Foundation, and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland. In 2023 Myymälä2 received the honourable State Prize for Multidisciplinary Arts by the Finnish Ministry of Culture, for its diverse cultural community and its uncompromisingly ethical mode of operations.
Nadine Lère is a visual artist working between Paris and Arles. She graduated from École Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris. In her works she mixes several disciplines such as installations, drawing, video, performance, collage. In her research she approaches and studies three main thematics: the human condition, the social interaction as she often involves the public in her actions, and the mental environment.
Nadine Lère has been teaching at École Supérieure des Beaux Arts and the University of Toulouse, France.
She has been presenting at prominent venues such as Institut national des Beaux-arts in Morocco and Centre du Développement Chorégraphique in France. Recently she has been in residency in Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, Japan and at L’Espace en cours, Paris. In 1995 Lère won the Arte Viva Senigallia prize in Italy.
Li Zhenhua’s practice mainly concerns curation, art creation and project management. He has been the nominator for the Summer Academy at the Zentrum Paul Klee Bern, as well as for The Prix Pictet. He is a member of the international advisory board for the exhibition “Digital Revolution” at the Barbican Centre in the UK, and of the international advisory board for Videotage and Symbiotica. Since 2000 he has focused on curating and dialogue with the 6th generation filmmakers from China. He is often invited as a jury in festivals and competitions dedicated to film and contemporary art, and recently he curated dedicated sections at Art Basel Hong Kong. His work as an artist is rare and researched by connoisseurs, scholars, and collectors who treasure his exquisite productions. He lives between Berlin, Zurich and China.
Egle Oddo is a visual artist, her work focuses on linear and non-linear narrative as an art form. Interested in operational realism, meant as the presentation of the functional sphere in an aesthetic arrangement and its inter-relations, she combines photography, moving image, installation, sculpture, environmental art, and experimental live art. In her pieces industrial production morphs towards delicate handcraft, life forms appear and emerge out of sculptures and objects, film photography appropriate digital images, selected trash mix with fashion, precious edible minerals and ancestral recipes are served as part of ritual meals. Her work is present at international biennials, Museums and relevant institutions, as well as cutting edge and independent alternative spaces and events. She lives and works in Helsinki.
Ima Picó is a visual artist based in the UK. She specialises in creating abstract geometric art, combining digital techniques with traditional painting methods. Her artistic process seamlessly integrates computer-generated designs with hand-painted elements and the vibrant palette of her homeland influences her creations. She is passionate about exploring the dynamic interplay of 3D elements, colour, shape, languages, symbols, and fonts in her artwork. Through her unique approach, she aims to challenge and captivate viewers with vibrant, thought-provoking compositions that blur the lines between digital and traditional mediums. Her work is exhibited internationally and it is present in public and private collections. She lives between Spain and the UK.
Timo Tuhkanen is an artist-composer, curator, and researcher, whose work intersects between contemporary art, music, institutional critique, and research into the cultural and historical aspects of touch. Their work is concerned with designing and creating objects and materials, direct actions and socio-political interventions, instruments, institutions, and resources as an artistic practice through relational aesthetics. Timo was born in Muscat, Oman, and grew up in Jordan, in Palestine, and in Israel. Their artworks address colonial hegemonic and patriarchal practices to form queer, fluid non-European objects, conditions, and spaces for experimenting with the real. Tuhkanen is currently working on their project Microtonal Music Studios, a three year project which enables artists and creates resources for non-western, post-genre, post-national musical systems, infrastructures, instruments, and thinking.
Roi Vaara, lives and works between Helsinki and Budapest. He is a pioneer of performance art, and he is one of the founders of the collective Black Market International. In his site- and situation-specific work, he investigates personal experiences and integrates art with life. With his performances Vaara propagates immaterial values, confronting the audience with the prevailing materialism and consumerism. He was presented with the prestigious Ars Fennica Prize in 2005, was awarded with the Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland in 2010, and in 2023 was presented with the title of Academician of Arts by the President of the Republic of Finland. His work is part of the most important private and public collections in Scandinavia.
Oliver Whitehead is a media artist from England who has lived and worked in Helsinki since 1971. He worked as director of the Media Department in the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki from 1991–97. Whitehead is a versatile and multidisciplinary artist. He moves comfortably within painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, film and video, often applying a combination of the techniques. More recently he has worked with live experimental video projections and also in cooperation with musicians. His works are part of several private and public collections, and recently he is producing new works in poetry and contemporary dance.

L’aria è il veicolo di una continua comunicazione interspecie, trasporta composti biologici e segnali chimici, muove suoni e profumi, influenza la meteorologia e l’umore.
Anche se passa quasi inosservata, l’aria fa costantemente parte della nostra esperienza tattile che è alla base del ciclo dell’ossitocina che regola gli affetti. Lungi dall’essere incorporea, ma continuamente carica di contenuti, l’atmosfera ha svolto un ruolo fondamentale nel portare avanti l’evoluzione biologica. Dal punto di vista biologico infatti, l’aria e la sua pervasiva e fluida contaminazione funzionano come una forza evolutiva che istiga le mutazioni e migliora la vitalità, spesso rendendo gli organismi più resistenti all’ambiente.
Aerial Forms of (r)Evolution presenta una raccolta di opere che includono l’aria come mezzo di proliferazione, dispersione e amplificazione dei significati, come sottile atto di sovversione.
Mentre i nostri impianti culturali collassano sotto il peso della loro stessa incoerenza, opportunità senza precedenti per un cambiamento radicale soffiano sulla candela delle derive autoritarie, e continue perturbazioni e inattesi venti riordinano le compagini a livello globale.
Evento speciale: durante la fiera offriremo un evento speciale con la proiezione del film Prisoner’s Dilemma di Li Zhenhua.

BIOGRAFIE
Myymälä2 è una galleria d’arte contemporanea senza scopo di lucro attiva dal 2002. E’ uno spazio per eventi gestito da curatori e artisti nel cuore del distretto del design a Helsinki. Nel corso degli anni, ha consolidato la sua posizione a livello internazionale come spazio dedicato all’arte, alla musica sperimentale, al design e alla tendenze emergenti. Ha una casa editrice indipendente chiamata Pteron Press. Myymälä2 presenta artisti impegnati in diverse discipline con background culturali ed educativi molteplici, il cui atteggiamento nei confronti dell’arte è sperimentale e non convenzionale. Myymälä2 è sostenuta dall’Assessorato alla Cultura della città di Helsinki e dal Ministero di Cultura Finlandese. I suoi progetti sono cresciuti sotto gli auspici della Finnish Cultural Foundation – Fondo regionale e centrale, Frame Contemporary Art Finland, Oskar Öflunds Stiftelse, Manifesta12, Fondo Mondriaan, Fondazione Orestiadi, Erasmus+, e Fondazione Kone. Nel 2023 Myymälä2 ha ricevuto il Premio Statale per le arti multidisciplinari dal Ministero della Cultura Finlandese, per la sua comunità culturale diversificata e il suo modo di operare etico e senza compromessi.
Nadine Lère è un’artista visiva che lavora tra Parigi e Arles. Si è laureata all’École Supérieure des Beaux Arts di Parigi. Nelle sue opere mescola diverse discipline come installazione, disegno, video, performance, collage. Nella sua ricerca affronta e studia tre tematiche principali: la condizione umana, l’interazione sociale poiché spesso coinvolge il pubblico nelle sue azioni, e l’ambiente mentale. Nadine Lère ha insegnato all’École Supérieure des Beaux Arts e all’Università di Tolosa, in Francia. Si è esibita in luoghi di rilievo come l’Institut national des Beaux-arts in Marocco e il Centre du Développement Chorégraphique in Francia. Recentemente è stata in residenza a Villa Kujoyama a Kioto, in Giappone e presso L’Espace en cours, Parigi. Nel 1995 Lère ha vinto il premio Arte Viva Senigallia in Italia.
La pratica di Li Zhenhua riguarda principalmente la curatela, la creazione artistica e la gestione di progetti a lungo termine. È stato parte del comitato di selezione dell’Accademia estiva del Zentrum Paul Klee di Berna e del Prix Pictet. È membro del comitato consultivo internazionale per la mostra “Digital Revolution” al Barbican Centre nel Regno Unito e del comitato consultivo internazionale per Videotage e Symbiotica. Dal 2000 si concentra sulla curatela e sul dialogo con i registi cinesi di sesta generazione. È spesso invitato come giuria in festival e concorsi dedicati al cinema e all’arte contemporanea, e recentemente ha curato sezioni dedicate ad Art Basel Hong Kong. Il suo lavoro come artista è raro e ricercato da intenditori, studiosi e collezionisti che fanno tesoro delle sue squisite produzioni. Vive tra Berlino, Zurigo e la Cina.
Egle Oddo è un’artista il cui lavoro si concentra sulla narrazione lineare e non lineare come forma d’arte. Interessata al realismo operativo, inteso come presentazione della sfera funzionale in una disposizione estetica e alle sue interrelazioni, combina fotografia, immagine in movimento, installazione, scultura, arte ambientale e arte sperimentale dal vivo. Nelle sue opere la produzione industriale si trasforma in delicato artigianato, forme di vita appaiono ed emergono da sculture e oggetti, la fotografia su pellicola si appropria del digitale, selezionati rifiuti si mescolano all’haute couture, preziosi minerali e ricette ancestrali vengono serviti come parte di pasti rituali. Le sue produzioni sono presenti in biennali internazionali, musei e istituzioni rilevanti, nonché in spazi indipendenti ed eventi sperimentali. Vive e lavora a Helsinki.
Ima Picó è un’artista visiva specializzata nella creazione di arte geometrica astratta, combinando tecniche digitali con i metodi della pittura tradizionale. Il suo processo artistico integra perfettamente disegni generati dal computer con elementi dipinti a mano e la vibrante tavolozza della sua terra natale influenza le sue creazioni. La sua passione è esplorare l’interazione dinamica di elementi 3D, con colori, forme, linguaggi, simboli e caratteri. Attraverso il suo approccio unico, mira a sfidare e affascinare gli spettatori con composizioni intense e stimolanti che confondono i confini tra i mezzi digitali e quelli tradizionali. Il suo lavoro è esposto a livello internazionale ed è presente in collezioni pubbliche e private. Vive tra la Spagna e il Regno Unito.
Timo Tuhkanen è un artista-compositore, curatore e ricercatore, il cui lavoro si interseca tra arte contemporanea, musica, critica istituzionale e ricerca sugli aspetti culturali e storici del tatto. Il suo lavoro riguarda la progettazione e la creazione di opere, di azioni dirette e interventi socio-politici, di strumenti, istituzioni e di risorse come pratica artistica attraverso l’estetica relazionale. Timo è nato a Muscat, Oman, ed è cresciuto in Giordania, Palestina e Israele. Le sue opere criticano le pratiche egemoniche, patriarcali e coloniali, dando luogo all’emergere di spazi trans-Europei, fluidi e queer per la sperimentazione con il reale. Tuhkanen sta attualmente lavorando al Microtonal Music Studios, un progetto triennale che forma artisti e crea risorse, infrastrutture e strumenti per nuove teorie musicali basate sul pensiero ultra-occidentale, post-genere e post-nazionali.
Roi Vaara, vive e lavora tra Helsinki e Budapest. È un pioniere della performance art ed è uno dei fondatori del collettivo Black Market International. Nel suo lavoro site- e situation- specific, indaga le esperienze personali e integra l’arte con la vita. Con le sue performance Vaara propaga valori immateriali, confrontando il pubblico con il materialismo e il consumismo prevalenti. Gli è stato conferito il prestigioso Premio Ars Fennica nel 2005, è stato insignito della Medaglia Pro Finlandia dell’Ordine del Leone di Finlandia nel 2010 e nel 2023 gli è stato conferito il titolo di Accademico delle Arti dal Presidente della Repubblica di Finlandia. Il suo lavoro fa parte delle più importanti collezioni private e pubbliche della Scandinavia.
Oliver Whitehead è un artista multimediale di origine inglese che vive e lavora a Helsinki dal 1971. È stato il direttore del Dipartimento di Arte Multimediale presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Helsinki dal 1991 al 1997. Whitehead è un artista versatile e multidisciplinare, si muove a suo agio tra pittura, disegno, incisione, fotografia, scultura, film e video, spesso applicando una combinazione di tecniche. Recentemente si è cimentato con lavori sperimentali che includono proiezioni video dal vivo, spoken word e collaborazioni con musicisti. Le sue opere fanno parte di numerose collezioni private e pubbliche, e attualmente sta producendo nuovi lavori di poesia e danza contemporanea.
